Asus X53e Ethernet Controller Driver

Bought a seagate usb 3.0 extenal drive to plug into my GS74SX with a USB 3.0 port.
Plugged it in and nada.
Looked to see if drivers installed thru the control panel. Didn't see them
Tried to install the latest and greatest Fresco Logic drivers off of support.asus.com
Installation runs and then tells me no Fresco Logic Host Controller found.
I've never had the need to use USB 3.0 since I bought the laptop. It is out of warranty.
Is the controller just dead? Or is there a file I need to run other than the FLUSB file prior to installing the drivers.
If the host controller is just turned off is there a way to turn it on. Troubleshoot? How do I tell if it is really dead and not just hiding.

Hi,

You encounter error code 28 in device manager for any device if the driver for that device is not installed on your computer.

Windows

I would suggest you to follow these methods and check.

Method 1: You might visit ASUS’s website to download the updated drivers for the Wireless card.

Method 2: Download drivers using the Vendor ID or Device ID

a. Click on “Start button”.

b. Right click on “Computer” menu and choose “Properties”.

c. Click on “Device manager” option in the left pane.

d. Unknown devices would be listed as such and marked out with a yellow question mark.

e. Select the unknown device and right click to access Properties.

f. In the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id from the drop down.

g. An alphanumeric string like this PCIVEN_1217&DEV_7130&SUBSYS_012F1025&REV_014&6B16D5B&0&33F0 is the identification marker for the device. We only need to isolate the Vendor ID number (prefixed with VEN) and the Device ID number (prefixed with DEV). In this case, Vendor ID is 1217 and Device ID is 7130.

With the numbers identified, a few resources can be tapped to get the vendors behind these numbers.

Ex: Type VEN_1217 in the catalogue search box, add to the basket, download and install the drivers.
